October 17, 2019 (Ottawa, ON) – Tree Canada Board members and staff are pleased to announce the appointment of Léo Duguay as new Chair of the Board. Léo served as Vice-Chair of the Board for the past 3 years and joined the Board in October 2011. Mr. Duguay’s tenure as Chair will help guide the organization into its next 5-year strategic plan.

Léo has served as a Canadian politician, educator, has been an active community member and school administrator in Manitoba. Mr. Duguay served as a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. As a Member of Parliament he was a representative on the Human Rights Committee at the United Nations 40th Assembly.

Following his House of Commons career, Léo was Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs before forming his own consulting firm. Through his ownership of Duralex Management Inc. he provided consulting services to many leading Canadian and North American organizations. Prior to joining the Rothwell Group in 2006, Leo Duguay held the position of Senior Vice President with a major international public affairs firm where he provided government relations counsel across a broad spectrum of industry sectors. Of note, Léo is a Member of both the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.

The Board welcomes Lawrence Lewis as Vice-Chair and wishes to recognize the 10 years of dedication and passion that former Past Chair, David Domke invested in Tree Canada. Recently joining the Board are new members Moe Assaf – Senior Director of Financial Services for The Brick, Julie Barker-Merz – Regional President, Greater Toronto Region at BMO Financial Group and Sabrina Fitzgerald – National Tech Sector Leader at the firm PwC Canada and Managing Partner of the National Capital Region.
