National Greening, Program Manager
Tree Canada is recruiting a Program Manager responsible for managing the National Greening Program. As Program Manager, you will become part of an energetic team of dedicated professionals who are working in the pursuit of a greener and healthier living environment for all Canadians.
Reports to: Head, National Greening Program
Term: Full-time permanent position (37.5 hours/week)
Work location: Flexible, with preference in Ottawa; with occasional across Canada travel
Language requirement: Proficiency in English required; French an asset.
Salary Range: $55,000 to 65,000 (commensurate with experience); competitive benefits.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Tree Canada is recruiting a Program Manager responsible for managing the National Greening Program. In this role, you will:
- assist Tree Canada in administering and supporting forest restoration projects across the country;
- work with Indigenous communities, planting contractors, conservation organizations, silvicultural foresters, and municipalities to support and implement tree planting projects;
- support in identifying, selecting, and coordinating the funding and establishment of ecosystem and forest cover restoration projects;
- assist in determining, quantifying and communicating the benefits of tree planting as a tool for climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as increasing ecosystem resilience.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Manages the National Greening Program including 20-25 mass plantings across Canada,
planting over 2 to 4 million seedlings annually - Secures planting sites and coordinates planting contractors
- Schedules planting verification audits and survival assessments
- Allocates funding from donors, corporations and the federal 2 Billion Trees Initiative to projects
- Assists National Greening Program colleagues with partnership development, outreach, Indigenous community relations and research
- Oversee extensive administrative tasks and reporting associated with this program
- Knowledge and experience with forest carbon and carbon finance is an asset
ABOUT YOU
- Post-secondary (Master’s or Bachelor’s) degree in forestry, environmental studies, land use planning or geography, with a minimum of five to seven years field experience in environmental sciences (equivalencies in education and experience will be considered)
- Three to five years of professional experience
- Proven track record of successful project management with experience in coordinating multiple and simultaneous projects on time and on budget; strong organizational skills with attention to detail are required
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse stakeholders including municipalities, conservation authorities, other environmental groups and the private sector
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills; an active listener who communicates respectfully and effectively
- Self-motivated, innovative and creative thinker with demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and with a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with videoconferencing tools, Dropbox, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams); knowledge and experience in Salesforce and OpenWater is an asset
- Knowledge and experience in geomatics such as Google Maps and ESRI ArcGIS is an asset
