Education and Professional Development

There are eight faculties with forestry programs in Canada. Urban forestry involves diverse professionals, including foresters, arborists, landscape architects, biologists, ecologists, utilities workers, urban planners, engineers, politicians, economists, policy analysts, geographers, information analysts, project managers, and more. Some aspects of urban forestry work may require a licensed practitioner who must meet certain requirements set by professional regulatory bodies. That being said, the educational backgrounds of urban forestry professionals in many sectors vary widely. Also, it is important to keep in mind that there are many faculties, departments and schools within educational institutions across Canada that related to urban forestry but they may not call it that. Examples may be found in Environmental Studies and Sciences, Geography, Landscape Architecture.
