BMO and Tree Canada: Growing Hope Together, One Tree at a Time

Tree Canada

Trees play a vital role in helping communities respond to the effects of climate change. They provide natural shade that helps cool urban areas, reduce the heat island effect, and lower energy consumption during hot summer months. Trees also absorb carbon dioxide and filter pollutants, making the air cleaner and healthier for everyone. Beyond their environmental benefits, green spaces support biodiversity and offer welcoming places to relax, recharge, and connect with nature.

Across the country, communities, organizations, and individuals are looking for meaningful ways to take climate action. Thanks to a strong partnership between BMO and Tree Canada, thousands of Canadians have joined forces to green their neighbourhoods through National Tree Day (NTD) planting events.

As a Purpose-driven organization, BMO shares Tree Canada’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future. Since 2022, this collaboration has resulted in the planting of more than 19,000 trees and shrubs and engaged close to 5,000 volunteers across the country. Over three years, 52 planting sites have hosted free planting events, uniting Tree Canada, BMO employees, local citizens, and community partners under one common purpose: environmental action.

The BMO team in action — planting trees for a greener future!

This year marks Tree Canada’s 14th National Tree Day, and we’re celebrating with community planting events in every province. Last year was a record-breaker—2,320 volunteers came together to plant more than 8,700 trees in every province! Many participants shared how much they appreciated the chance to take meaningful, hands-on action for the environment and connect with others who share their passion for a greener future.

Planting a tree is an opportunity to thank nature, learn about urban forests and be part of the solution. National Tree Day provides the platform and the tools to make a lasting difference.

It aims to engage Canadians in local tree-planting and community-led events, educate people on the benefits of trees and forests and raise funds to support Tree Canada’s mission. National Tree Day 2025 will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24th and Saturday, September 27th.
