Tree Canada continues the fight against the Emerald Ash Borer by providing support to five communities across Canada

July 17, 2018 (Ottawa, ON) — Tree Canada, Canada’s leading national tree-planting charity, and BioForest Technologies Inc. are pleased to announce the five communities receiving support to protect ash trees from the Emerald Ash Borer.

The donations of TreeAzin™ (a product used to protect ash trees) are part of Tree Canada’s #Operation ReLeaf Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) program, made possible through the generous support of BioForest Technologies Inc.

Of the many applications received from a number of Canadian communities, the five successful recipients are:

1. Blainville, QC
2. Belleville, ON
3. Pointe-Claire, QC
4. Winnipeg, MB
5. Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, ON

The pest, originally from Asia, was first detected in 2002 in southern Ontario, however its range has since expanded into new regions across the country. Since 2013, Tree Canada has been fighting the spread of EAB in Canada by partnering with municipalities in Ontario and Quebec. Communities use TreeAzin™ along with other management techniques to minimize the effects of the beetle.One of the best ways to prevent the spread of the pest is to prohibit the movement of any ash trees or firewood from an infested area.
