Tree Canada Now Accepting Applications for 2025 Community Tree Grants
Non-profit aims to distribute over $1 million to support greening projects across Canada
November 1st, 2024 (Ottawa, ON) – Tree Canada is now accepting applications for its 2025 Community Tree Grants, with the goal of surpassing this past year’s success in supporting greening, innovation, and stewardship projects across Canada. Eligible groups are encouraged to apply for funding by December 9, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
In 2024, Tree Canada approved funding for 116 Community Tree Grant projects in 96 communities across Canada, totaling over $1 million.
The program offers grants of up to $10,000 to schools, community groups, Indigenous communities and municipalities across Canada to increase their green infrastructure through the planting of trees and shrubs. Funding and technical support are provided to help start, upgrade, or achieve planting projects, as well as to develop and roll out urban forest best management practices and innovative urban design solutions.
This year’s available Community Tree Grants are:
The Greening Canada’s School Grounds grant helps strengthen the relationship between students and nature and the learning experience through school greening projects. Tree Canada supports greening projects wherever learning takes place, including on educational institution properties such as elementary schools, primary schools, high schools, universities, colleges and training centers across Canada.
The Edible Trees grant helps connect people with local food sources and builds community by planting trees and shrubs that produce fruit, nuts, seeds, berries, and pods. Funding is available to educational institutions, Indigenous communities, community groups or gardens, food banks, community housing projects, municipalities, or other groups interested in planting edible trees on publicly accessible sites.
The Treemendous Communities grant encourages and supports community tree planting projects that create long-lasting benefits. A wide range of project proposals is accepted, such as heat island mitigation projects, biodiversity corridors, stormwater retention, invasive species control, riparian planting, park and street tree plantings, and more. Treemendous Communities funding is available to Canadian municipalities, Indigenous communities, business improvement associations, non-profits and community groups.
