Lagabière Supports the Planting of 70 Trees at CEGEP of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
On September 30th, 20 volunteers from Lagabière Brasserie Artisanale planted 70 large trees and 9 shrubs at the front of the CEGEP of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. This initiative was part of Tree Canada’s Partners in Planting program, which offers companies a way to deliver a team building opportunity alongside community engagement and good corporate citizenship.

Earlier this year, Tree Canada was able to secure a planting site at the CEGEP of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, who were interested in hosting a tree planting on the school grounds.
“The CEGEP of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu took a commitment to raise awareness and provide education about environment and green citizenship for the college community in our last strategic plan,” explains Nathalie Guibord, the CEGEP’s Advisor on environment and sustainable development. “For the past few years, we have been gradually reforesting our large lot which is still a grassed area for the most part.”
These newly planted trees will bring many benefits to the students and faculty, including making the air more breathable, beautifying the landscape and promoting mental well-being and reducing stress.
“After completing the project, the CEGEP will count more than 50 tree species, mostly native, on the school grounds,” says Guibord. “This will be an amazing and diverse arboretum that will benefit the college community today and for future generations. Students and teachers will be able to enjoy it not only for the educational aspect, but also as a peaceful and natural living environment on the long term.”
As the leading national tree planting charity in Canada, Tree Canada is thrilled to see corporate sponsors engaging in team building for a good cause. By bringing together our sponsors and planting hosts, we can support community greening and bolster Canada’s urban forests.
“Lagabière decided to support Tree Canada’s mission to do our part to reduce the impact of climate change, because this affects absolutely everybody,” says Francis Laganière, co-owner of Lagabière Brasserie Artisanale. “Even if our contribution also helps reforesting the big forests across Quebec, we wanted to organize an event in our city to prove our concrete commitment to the population. The CEGEP of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu proved to be the perfect place to illustrate Lagabière’s commitment to the population.”
