The CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program, sponsored by CN in partnership with Tree Canada, provides funding to support sustainable community tree planting and greening initiatives for Canadian municipalities and Indigenous communities across the country.

First launched in 2012, this program has awarded 228 projects and contributed to the planting of 127,505 trees to date in Canada..  

In 2021, this program awarded 26 grants of $25,000 for tree planting in communities across Canada. Supported projects taking place on public property may relate to any of the following:

  • Urban forests
  • School greening
  • Transforming community spaces
  • Traffic calming and safety
  • Urban heat island reduction
  • Park creation or restoration
  • Adding to or improving naturalized areas
