Support tree-planting efforts in Montreal
The Montreal Urban Canopy Project is a Tree Canada initiative to plant and maintain thousands of trees in Montreal on land owned by the private sector.
In 2017, CN committed $1 million to plant approximately 10,000 trees on its lands in Montreal – to date 8,088 trees have been planted towards this goal.
This initiative is in support of the Alliance Forêt Urbaine, created in 2012 by Soverdi, of which Tree Canada is a member. Their goal was to plant 50,000 trees in 5 years on privately-owned lands in Montreal, an effort to support the City of Montreal’s objective to attain 25% forest canopy cover, driven by the devastation brought on by the emerald ash borer, an invasive and destructive insect.
