BC Wildfires

About this Program

In 2017, communities in British Columbia received evacuation orders and alerts, and many saw significant fire activity. Tree Canada and the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) are working together to provide up to $150,000 in funding to replant trees on publicly accessible lands impacted by the wildfires.

Funding Requirements

Eligibility for funding requires that the land fall under municipal authority, including First Nations communities.

Community planting projects must meet at least one of the following objectives: 

  1. Replanting of burned trees and vegetation with FireSmart and native tree species, adhering to FireSmart principles.
  2. Planting FireSmart and native trees and shrubs to stabilize slopes in regions at increased risk of landslides due to the wildfires.
  3. Planting FireSmart and native trees and shrubs that offer food or medicine to replace those lost due to the wildfires.

How to Apply

Phase 1

Applicants must submit an expression of interest, including details about the proposed planting project, to Tree Canada. Projects that meet the minimum eligibility requirements will be invited to participate in Phase 2.

Phase 2

Tree Canada will collect detailed project plans and budgets from the candidates invited to participate in Phase 2. If needed, Tree Canada and the CRC will be available to support applicants through the application process. Grant approval will be awarded to projects based on their eligibility to meet the established requirements.
