Don Cameron
Don grew up in Truro, Nova Scotia playing sports and loving the forest. Though his dreams of becoming a professional athlete faded, his passion for the forest remained steadfast.
He graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Forestry degree in 1985. For the past 35 years, Don has worked for Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNRR) in Truro, as the regional coordinator for private woodlands management, outreach and education. Prior to his retirement in January 2024, Don actively collaborated with various stakeholders, including woodland owners, forest industry, youth, the public and the media. Alongside his professional commitments, he has dedicated over two decades to crafting a weekly column called “A Walk in the Woods.”
For more than a quarter of a century, he assumed the role of volunteer Chair of the Truro Urban Forest Committee, spearheading initiatives to preserve and enhance the town’s urban forest and park lands. Don has also acted on behalf of Tree Canada several times over the years and was on the Canadian Urban Forest Conference organizing committee when it was held in Truro in 2010.
