Communications Coordinator

Tree Canada is seeking a Communications Coordinator to inspire and motivate Canadians by sharing the positive impacts of our work on communities and the environment. This unique opportunity allows you to support the growth of an organization dedicated to improving lives and addressing climate change by planting and nurturing trees in both rural and urban environments.

Term: Full-time, 12-month contract (maternity leave replacement)

Start Date: February 2025

Work location: National Capital Region

Language requirement: Fluently bilingual (English and French)

Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000

About the Position

The Communications Coordinator develops and coordinates Tree Canada’s communication products and digital platforms to support our programs, campaigns, engagement initiatives, and overall organizational communications. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Brand, the Coordinator creates compelling content that engages target audiences while ensuring that internal and external stakeholders adhere to brand guidelines. As a valued member of Tree Canada’s communications team, the Communications Coordinator also oversees projects that require coordination across Tree Canada departments and collaborates with external contractors to deliver high-quality products and services.

 

Areas of Responsibility

Development and Coordination of Communications Products:

  • Coordinates the design, production, translation, printing and publishing of communications products for internal and external audiences, including web and social media content, email communications, marketing collateral, reports, etc.
  • Co-manages Tree Canada’s social media channels, including creating and publishing content, answering inquiries, and monitoring trends and issues.
  • Writes, copy-edits and proofreads communications products in English and French to ensure the respect of high-quality standards
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Director

Fundraising Support & Liaison:

  • Produces and advises on the development of communications and marketing plans and products related to sponsor/fundraising needs, while developing positive relationships with sponsor contacts
  • Supports the fundraising team in the execution of various sponsor benefits (i.e., website listing, press releases, special events etc.); acts as liaison with the fundraising team to ensure cross-department alignment
  • Ensures appropriate data integration with Tree Canada’s database

Event Coordination and Community Engagement:

  • Coordinates staff participation and logistics for conferences and speaking events including the preparation of event scenarios, speaking points, PowerPoint presentations, promotional assets, inventory management, and timely shipment of goods
  • Assists with the planning of National Tree Day including developing communications products, volunteer management, branding, promotion, marketing and media requests
  • Attends events, provides logistical support when required, and acts as a representative of Tree Canada

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience developing and executing on communications strategies and plans
  • Excellent knowledge of social media best practices and trends; and experience with managing social media channels
  • Excellent writing, editing, technical and copyediting skills with a demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Press style conventions
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with contractor/supplier coordination
  • Friendly, outgoing and creative
  • Strong time management, multitasking and organizational skills; ability to keep track of all moving parts of a project with both a big picture view and an attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with basic HTML editing and website maintenance; knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and WordPress
  • Respect for the values and differences that all members of a small team bring to an office environment; adaptable to different approaches and flexible to move in new directions
  • Commitment to the work and values of Tree Canada, in particular a passion for the environment and a belief that organizations and individuals can and do improve lives by planting trees and addressing climate change

 

Education and Experience

Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, public relations, creative disciplines and/or journalism. Minimum three (3) to five (5) years experience in communications, marketing or a related field preferably in the not-for-profit sector. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
